Tether (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our web application, desktop application, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, including:

Account information (name, email address, profile photo)
Organization and team information
Commitments, tasks, and follow-up data you create
Due dates, status updates, and priority settings
Messages and communications within the Service

We also automatically collect certain information when you use our Service, including usage analytics, device information, browser type, and log data.

Third-Party Integrations

When you connect third-party services, we collect limited data necessary to provide the integration:

Google Calendar: We access your calendar events in read-only mode to extract commitments from meetings. We store only the commitment data we create on your behalf, not your full calendar.
Google Drive: We access meeting transcripts and notes in read-only mode to identify action items. We do not store copies of your documents.
Slack: We receive messages you forward to Tether and send reminders and status updates to your Slack workspace. We store only the commitment data extracted from forwarded messages.

You can disconnect any integration at any time from your Settings page. OAuth tokens are stored securely and are revoked upon disconnection.

Desktop Application & Screenshots

Our desktop application includes a screenshot capture feature that allows you to extract commitments from on-screen content. Screenshots are processed locally on your device and are not uploaded to, transmitted to, or stored on our servers. The screenshot image is sent directly to a third-party AI provider for text extraction, and is immediately discarded after processing. Only the extracted commitment text is saved to your Tether account. We never have access to your screenshot images.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
Create and manage your commitments and follow-ups
Send reminders, status check-ins, and notifications
Generate reports and reliability metrics for your team
Send technical notices and support messages
Respond to your comments and questions
Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities
Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent activity

Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with third parties only in the following circumstances:

With your consent
With service providers who assist in our operations (hosting, analytics, AI processing)
Within your organization, as determined by your visibility settings for each commitment
To comply with legal obligations
In connection with a merger or acquisition
To protect rights, privacy, safety, or property

AI Processing

We use third-party AI services to extract commitments from meeting transcripts, messages, and screenshots. Data sent to AI providers is used solely for processing your request and is not used to train AI models. We select providers with strong data handling practices and appropriate data processing agreements.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, secure authentication via OAuth 2.0, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. Archived commitments are retained until you delete them. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. We will also retain and use your information as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
